My dog was crate trained, but now he's having accidents in the house again. What do I do? First, ensure you have spayed/neutered before maturity of your dog (6-7 mo of age). Sexual maturity brings about marking and territorial behaviors which can be avoided by alteration before they form those habits. Dogs are creatures of habit, so ensure you are keeping a routine schedule of feeding, potty breaks, walks, play time, etc. When dogs revert to poor potty habits, go back to a stricter schedule and crate training. Limit any free time your dog has in the house, to prevent accidents. Reward him/her for successful trips outside. Problem solve to see if there has been a change in routine, new member of the household, stressors, etc. The more training and routine you can provide, the better outcome you will have.
My dog eats feces. Does it hurt him and why does he do such a disgusting thing!? Many dogs eat feces, both other animal and their own. It is not known why they do it, but there are a few things you can do to minimize the act. Pick up after him/her in the yard to prevent them from eating their own feces. Although the feces itself isn't necessarily harmful, they can pick up parasites from it. Ensure you are feeding a balanced quality diet with a premium brand kibble. If you feed raw diet, ensure you are following your vet's instructions to ensure your dog is receiving adequate, balanced, nutrition. If you still can't curb your dog's behavior, use a diet additive such as Dis-Taste or For-Bid which makes the stool taste awful so your dog will not eat it.
